A 2-minute read (more like 20 minutes if you clickety-click)
Hi from the first chestnut you picked up off the sidewalk this year. It feels like it holds all of autumn in it, right?
All helpful (I hope) resources all the time:
Seth Werkheiser and his Social Media Escape Club. I’ve been dabbling in Seth’s offerings, and finding lovely small groups, a super-chill vibe, and lots of ‘hells yessss’ nodding. I scribbled three pages of useful and enthusiastic notes during one a couple of weeks ago—you can listen in awe as Amelia Hruby talks about sales in the same comfortable and easy tone as the rest of us talk about lunch. #Goals. There are always other workshops coming up—hope to see you there.

Working with several writers who are curious about Substack, I find myself collecting useful resources for the platform. The Human Project offers loads of helpful and, er, human tips re Substack and growth. (This particular article could also be called ‘How the megacorps will always screw you with their algos.’)
BadRedhead Media (Rachel) offers this: How to set up a Substack publication without losing your mind; and here’s a welcome email guide from The Newsletter Newsletter.
Disability advocate Emily Ladau’s Substack: Words I Wheel By. Emily’s Demystifying Disability is the most accessible (pun intended) book about disability I’ve ever read; I can’t recommend it enough. She’s recently revised and updated it, giving me another reason to be grateful to and for her.

If anyone out there is handy in Adobe Express, please hit me up: I could use some human-to-human tutorials. I’ve been making animations for clients, and it’s super-fun, and also not super-easy—yet.
Wondering what it’s like to work with me? Here’s some of what I’ve been up to over the last few weeks, and what I could do for you:
creating animations and other social media posts, and managing social media and marketing for a (truly great) new, micro-press-published book, Family Rooms: Inside Family Medicine. (And now learning about distribution, to support them in that way, too.)
building websites for authors and their books
creating marketing plans and marketing materials (bookmarks, posters, digital assets, roll-up banners, signage…) for authors
coaching writers through marketing and tech (setting up a Substack, and learning some of the basics of website tweaking, for example)
Author Claire Ross Dunn says, “Lauren has been amazing helping me with my book launch, marketing, and publicity. She’s been invaluable, and, not to put too fine a point on it, I no longer feel like I’m losing my mind.”
Author Susan Tromanhauser says, “After only a few sessions with Lauren I am empowered! Lauren’s careful questioning revealed what I needed to proceed and succeed with my project. She allowed me to see how all the pieces fit together. Her coaching and technical skills combined so I could do hard things—eventually on my own—but I never felt overwhelmed. THANK YOU, LAUREN!” [Blushing.]
If you think you might like to work with me, why not book a chat?
Some random pics from my roll, just for you:

Your imperfect pal,
Lauren
