The renaissance of The Imperfect Network
(aka The Imperfect Renaissance)
As I looked to revamp my services and make my work more meaningful, sustainable, and accessible, I wondered about how to structure the new Imperfect Network—and how to reach the ideal clientele.

In this time of enthusiasm about AI (yawn), the services I have been providing for decades are becoming less and less respected. Where graphic designers, copywriters, and marketing consultants could easily charge $100+/hr, the current market isn't sustaining that. As, perhaps, it shouldn't. This rate was not only not attracting my ideal clients, it was also beyond their budgets.
I also believe this is a capitalist trap—charge what the market will bear—when in fact I'm determined to uphold ethical commerce, and not extractive or oppressive work.

Thus the Imperfect Renaissance: providing the same high-level, high-quality services at a much more accessible sliding rate of $20–$50/hr, as determined by the client. And, to reinforce the 'Network' aspect of my business, I'm pulling together a community of small-business supports at the same sliding scale: accounting, admin, legal, therapeutic, coaching of many colours, and more.

I see a low monthly membership fee ($10) for service providers, in exchange for promotion of their work, as well as community supports (shared resources, networking calls, etc).

The immediate challenges as I see them are:
-
clear criteria for both service providers and clients (including focus on social justice, community support, mental health, Indigenous and other BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA, JEDI, etc)
-
an organizational model/logistics that make all of these components (network, membership, clients) manageable
-
finding and securing those clients
As above, I would hope for
-
a business framework that would make it manageable and sustainable for me, as one person, to help the Imperfect Network
-
innovative and refreshing ideas about how to maintain ethical standards across the board
-
possible questionnaires for potential network members, as well as for potential clients
-
financial models?
