Which is no one—

Jul 30, 2026

—so why do we feel the pressure to deliver? Calling on you, hustle culture!

Hey, it’s me, the writing book you bought with great enthusiasm, cracked twice, and now feel guilty about neglecting. (I’m so sorry, Wonderbook. You’re still in my heart.)

You’ll be thrilled to learn I’ve finally taken my own advice: blog every day, then offer that info in a light and delicious, easily-digested weekly sandwich of a newsletter. As I tell my clients, doing this means your website is full of insights, and also searchable terms, boosting SEO. It also (hopefully) means people will visit your site, where your business—books, bookings, etc—happens.

Failure, useful resources, Imperfect Humans, Wildcard, and success. In that order, in daily blogs. You won’t have noticed, but my last newsletter came out over a month ago, and the gap between the one prior to that was years. So, as I swallow the hypocrisy of guiding people along the path of connection through communication, I publish. Imperfectly.

Do as I say and not as I do could be tattooed onto my fingers. This is a blog post about failure. Can you relate? Nah, of course not. In fact, the theme for Tuesdays (re blog posts, anyway) is failure. Care to tell me about yours? I’m all ears (of corn, because it’s almost August and I’m in Niagara and yum).

Wednesdays are for resources shared. Well, all days are that as far as I’m concerned, but these blog posts will be chock-a-block with useful (and fun!) things. In this post you’ll encounter deep explorations of music around the world; craft and marketing resources for writers; and random resources shared in the Imperfect co-writing chat.

Speaking of resources, since you’re already subscribed here, you get access to my list of 180 content prompts (yes, yes, that’s too many, but there’s a game to help you choose).

Thursdays are about other people—unless I get all nervousy, and procrastinate around asking anyone if they want to be profiled (in a nice way, not a police-state way). Then I wind up writing about myself. [shrug] To be fair I was super-excited, because I finally submitted a piece for publication for the first time. (See ‘do as I say….’) You can help me out by offering to be next Thursday’s feature! ;)

Fridays are for wildcards, randos, whatevers. This one was about AI, which is a bit on the nose, sure, but I bumped into some real slop that’s as comedic as it is pathetic. Can I get an ‘eat the rich?’

We end on a high note on Mondays, when flowers are given: Success. In this post, Claire Ross Dunn, Désirée Penner, and Lady Lou Collective all get bigger-than-they-can-carry bouquets.

As a special parting gift, a few random shots from my camera roll.

[1. Need to soundproof a room? 2. A surprise wineberry bush in the forest—I guess not that surprising in Niagara-on-the-Lake. 3. Thank-you card from Claire Ross Dunn. 4. The scoby in action, making 'booch. 5. Love the outliers in this cluster of echinacea: why not be orange in a field of pink?]

The land on which I operate (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada) is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, Neutral Peoples, and other Indigenous Peoples from all over Turtle Island. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. I offer my sincere gratitude and respect to the original and continued stewards of this land.

I also acknowledge Indigenous, Black, people of colour, women, non-binary folks, and 2SLGBTQQAI+ people who have all been marginalized for centuries, and our collective responsibility to take action toward a world free from oppression, discrimination and racism.

ImpNet intends to keep trying to do better, and inspiring others to try too.

Taking one step away from being this kind of org, I donate 5% of all ImpNet income to payyourrent.ca, the Nii’kinaaganaa Foundation: Collecting rent and redistributing it to Indigenous People.

For an Indigenous Ally Kit, please visit the Resources page.
